About
Kamome Shirahama is a Japanese freelance manga artist and illustrator, best known for her Witch Hat Atelier series. She has created variant covers and illustrations for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and the Star Wars franchise. Notably, she did the character designs for The Elder, part of the Star Wars: Visions short film series released in 2021, and wrote the 2022 manga adaptation for it. Born on May 7, she graduated from the design program at the Tokyo University of the Arts. Shirahama works primarily with analog tools, drawing inspiration from The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, as well as Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. Her debut story was Watashi no Kuro-chan, published in 2011. She began working on Witch Hat Atelier in 2016, which quickly gained popularity. Additionally, she has illustrated cards for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, including Ninetales and Glaceon ex. Shirahama has received multiple nominations and awards, including the Eisner Award and the Kodansha Manga Award.
