GAME FREAK inc. is a Japanese video game developer, best known as the primary developer of the Pokémon series of role-playing video games. Founded in 1989 by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori, the company initially started as a self-published video game magazine. Its most popular series, Pokémon, has been a significant part of the gaming landscape since its introduction in 1996 with Pokémon Red and Green. The company has developed numerous titles in the franchise, including Pokémon GO and Pokémon Trading Card Game. Ken Sugimori, one of the co-founders, is also a celebrated illustrator and serves as art director, contributing to video game art and merchandise. While Game Freak itself is not credited as an illustrator for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, individual employees like Fumie Kittaka have illustrated cards. The company has evolved over the years, focusing on original game creation and expanding its portfolio beyond Pokémon.
