Tomokazu Komiya, born in 1973, is a prominent illustrator known for his work on the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) and several Pokémon Tales books. He has illustrated approximately 270 cards for the Pokémon TCG, with his first contributions appearing in the Expansion Sheet 1 series and the Neo Genesis expansion. Komiya is recognized for his distinctive primitivism style, characterized by deformed or loosely colored images inspired by children's art, featuring exaggerated features and bold color choices. His artwork has garnered significant praise within the Pokémon community, particularly for two Drowzee cards he illustrated that were released 18 years apart, generating excitement among collectors. In 2023, he contributed to the Pokémon × Van Gogh art collaboration, illustrating Sunflora and Smeargle. His work continues to resonate with fans, making him a beloved figure in the Pokémon illustration community.
