Kouichi Ooyama, known as OOYAMA, is a prominent illustrator and one of the original game designers of the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). Born in 1960, he has contributed significantly to the Pokémon franchise, particularly in the realm of card illustrations. OOYAMA is credited with illustrating at least 37 unique cards for the main Pokémon TCG and an additional 8 cards for Pokémon TCG Pocket. His work includes notable cards such as Ooyama's Pikachu and bilingual Exeggutor, where he is credited as 'Dr. Ooyama'. Over the years, he has illustrated a total of 189 cards across 28 sets, showcasing his extensive involvement in the series. In addition to his work on the TCG, OOYAMA served as the art director for the Super Famicom game MOTHER2 and is involved in developing new games under his brand, OOYAMA GAME. He has also participated as an illustrator judge for the 2024 TCG Illustration Contest. OOYAMA's contributions have made him a respected figure in the Pokémon community.
