About
Tomokazu Komiya (Japanese: こみやトモカズ, Komiya Tomokazu) is a prominent illustrator known for his contributions to the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) and several Pokémon Tales children's books. Born in 1973, he is recognized for his distinctive 'deformed and loosely colored' style, which reflects the art movement Primitivism. Komiya has illustrated approximately 270 Pokémon TCG cards and an additional 26 cards in the Pokémon TCG Pocket series. He began his work with the TCG in 1996, shortly after graduating from the Toyo Institute of Art and Design. His artwork often features exaggerated Pokémon proportions and vibrant colors, adapting to convey different moods. Beyond the TCG, he has illustrated various Pokémon Tales manga volumes and provided artwork for Pokémon merchandise, including items for the Pokémon Center and collaborations like the Pokémon × Van Gogh project in 2023.
