About
Keiji Kinebuchi (Japanese: 杵淵敬二; born February 14, 1956 – circa 2002) was a notable 3D illustrator for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), particularly recognized for his contributions to early sets. He was one of the few artists using LightWave 3D, creating distinctive 3D-style illustrations. Kinebuchi illustrated all Basic Energy cards and several Special Energy cards up until the Expedition Base Set, as well as many Trainer cards in the early expansions. He is credited with illustrating 106 unique cards, with a total of 188 cards including reprints. His first set was the Base Set, and his last illustrations appeared in the Aquapolis expansion. Kinebuchi passed away in the early 2000s, around 2002. His work included iconic titles such as Super Scoop Up, Staryu, Kakuna, and Magnemite. He is also credited with designing the original Energy layout and symbols still in use today.
